Skidder Forklifts

Description: Skidder forklifts are specialised machines used for moving logs. They are equipped with a winch or cable to drag logs out of the forest and onto logging roads. Skidders are built for rugged terrain and are commonly used to move logs from the cutting site to a landing or processing area.

Key Features: Skidders often feature a winch system equipped with a grapple or chain to efficiently grab and move logs. Can handle large logs, with capacities ranging from 4,500 kg to 15,000 kg, depending on the model.

Ideal For: Logging operations, especially for moving logs from cutting sites to roads or landings in dense forest environments.

Rough Terrain

Description: Forwarders are ideal for transporting logs from the cutting site to the roadside or processing area. Unlike skidders, which drag logs across the ground, forwarders are equipped with bunk beds or platforms to carry logs off the ground. They are commonly used in soft ground conditions and are a key piece of machinery.

Key Features: Forwarders have large flatbeds or bunk-style platforms where logs are loaded and carried off the ground. Forwarders feature cranes or hydraulic arms to load and unload logs efficiently.

Ideal For: Moving logs over long distances in forest environments, particularly where the ground is too soft for skidders or other heavy equipment.

Forest Forklifts (Rough Terrain Forklifts)

Description: Forest forklifts, or rough terrain forklifts, are specially designed to handle unique industry challenges. They are equipped with large, durable tyres and high ground clearance to navigate uneven, muddy, and forested terrain. These forklifts are typically used for loading and unloading logs, as well as moving and transporting materials in forest-based operations.

Key Features: Large tyres with deep treads offer excellent traction on soft, wet, or muddy surfaces commonly found in forest environments. The raised chassis enables easy navigation over roots, rocks, and uneven terrain. These forklifts are equipped with powerful hydraulic systems to lift heavy loads, usually logs or timber, for transport.

Ideal For: Loading and unloading logs in forested environments, moving items around forest harvesting sites, or transporting materials.

Log Loaders

Description: Log loaders are highly specialised forklifts used for loading logs onto trucks, trailers, or into processing areas. They are equipped with a crane arm and a grappling device that is capable of picking up and placing large logs precisely. These forklifts are commonly used in saw mills, log yards, and harvesting operations.

Key Features: The extended boom enables the forklift to reach high stacks of logs, allowing for efficient loading and unloading. The grapple or claw attachment securely grabs logs, making it easy to pick them up and move them.

Ideal For: Loading logs into trucks, trailers, or storage areas, especially at logging sites or sawmills.

Timberjack Forklifts

Description: These forklifts are specifically for harvesting and logging operations. They are equipped with a log grapple and are built for heavy-duty use. These forklifts are highly durable, featuring a crawler or tracked design that allows them to work in very rough or swampy terrain where traditional wheeled forklifts would struggle.

Key Features: Unlike wheeled forklifts, these have tracks that provide increased stability and mobility in swampy or muddy forest environments. Equipped with powerful cranes and log grapples for grabbing and moving logs efficiently.

Built to withstand the harsh conditions of forest environments, from wet grounds to uneven hills.

Ideal For: Harvesting, transporting logs across difficult terrain, and operating in remote or swampy logging areas.

Feller-Buncher Forklifts

Description: Feller-buncher forklifts are used in cutting and bunching trees for transportation. They are equipped with hydraulic arms that can cut trees and then bundle them together for easier handling and transportation. While primarily used for cutting, feller-bunchers can also be used for moving smaller logs.

Key Features: The feller-buncher’s hydraulic arm is fitted with a cutting saw or blade to cut down trees and process them. Capable of lifting and moving the cut trees, usually small to medium-sized logs.

Ideal For: Cutting, processing, and transporting smaller loads and logs in forest clearing operations.

Log Stacker Forklifts

Description: Log stackers are designed to stack logs in piles or move them around timber yards or logging sites. These forklifts are equipped with long forks that can pick up and stack items in an organised manner. They are essential in places where logs need to be stored before being transported to a mill or processing area.

Key Features: Extended forks enable the stacker to handle and move multiple logs at once. Can lift logs to great heights, often up to 6 meters, making them perfect for stacking tall piles. Log stackers are equipped with tyres or tracks to navigate uneven and rough terrain.

Ideal For: Storing, stacking, or moving logs in timber yards, sawmills, and wood processing plants.

Hydraulic Loader Forklifts

Description: Hydraulic loader forklifts are used to load and unload logs from trucks and trailers, especially in forestry yards or transportation depots. They are equipped with hydraulic arms that can be fitted with log-grabbing claws or forks, allowing them to move heavy logs with ease.

Key Features: The hydraulic arms provide powerful lifting capabilities for moving heavy logs from trucks or onto other vehicles.

Ideal For: Loading and unloading logs from trucks, trailers, and other vehicles, especially in yards or processing facilities.

Loader Forklifts with Grapple Attachments

Description: Loader forklifts with grapple attachments are used for handling large logs or heavy timber. The grapple attachment can grab and move logs, providing better control over the log handling process. These are especially useful for sorting logs and moving them to storage areas.

Key Features: Equipped with a large hydraulic grapple that grabs and holds logs securely during lifting. Can handle heavy logs or timber, often exceeding 10,000 kg in weight. These forklifts come with tyres or tracks that allow them to operate on soft and uneven ground.

Ideal For: Handling large logs, sorting timber, or moving logs around yards or sawmills.
